Day 8
An important part of playing music with more space in it is to let each note hang heavy with feeling that comes from deep inside you. Forget the airy, raspy tones that are so common in popular music. Make em believe. Dig a little piece of your soul from your pocket and dangle it there in the space between breaths, like a sweet treat on a string used to draw them closer, positively salivating for just a little taste of the honey in your voice. Make them lean in so close that they nearly slide right off their seats and down to the floor, down to the place where gravity takes them, right next to where those ponderous syllables land and stick to the ground after leaving your lips.
Make them sigh so deeply that their bones begin to melt, washed over with a sensation of such utter serenity that their entire body relieved itself of tension, filled only with a longing to exist in a world made up entirely of the fabric woven by your voice.
Make them forget where they are and why they came there. Take them on a journey to a place that can only be experienced through the magic of you, standing there in front of them, and make it so good that they want to come back there again and again.
It’s no easy task, sure. But it’s one that I feel every artist should strive for.
In a world full of noise and cluttered chaos, give people a reason to remember how goddamn good it feels to just listen. Let your passion speak. Make em believe.
